THE FINISHED FALL MANTLE

A couple of weeks ago I shared some ideas for using your magnolia tree in your home. (Revisit those ideas here.) Today I'm sharing how my mantel turned out before everyone shifts to all things Christmas. It's really not very elaborate at all, but the magnolia greenery makes it feel like it is. It was really simple and easy to put together. If you have a tree, or know someone who wouldn't mind sharing with you, go get some clippings!

I started with these two vases that my sweet momma handed down to me. (This is the first picture I posted to my Woodbank Lane's Instagram account.)

Then my friends Anne and Bill let me take home some branches from their tree one Sunday afternoon. This is how I started--in the middle of my driveway...

There really wasn't any rhyme or reason to how I arranged the branches. I just wanted them to look full. I kept playing with the arrangement and adding to it until it looked like my inspiration pictures.

Most of the year there is a mirror here, but I wanted to bring out the dog painting to help usher in the fall season.

There is almost no natural light in our living room. I hope you'll forgive the glare from the lamp.

The leaves looked good for a little over two weeks. I'm sure it would have been much longer if I had remembered to put water in the vases! ;)

That does it for November. See y'all in December!

  1. This is gorgeous Kathryn! Those vases are just beautiful and how special that they were your mother's. You know I am envious of your access to magnolia trees! xo
