WHY I LOVE THIS ROOM: TEN TAKEAWAYS (#4)

Hey, friends! I've come across another room that captivated me, and even though there are no babies in my near future, I keep coming back to this precious baby boy's nursery created by This American House. The color scheme has to be one of my favorites--blue and white--and there are so many details to take in. Shall we?

I followed the account not too long ago on Instagram, and one day last week, This American House shared this room. I loved it so much, I shared it, too. I've lost count of how many times I've revisited their page just to stare at this pretty space, and I had to discuss the details with you.

ONE

That light fixture! Such a pretty and unlikely choice for nursery lighting. But you have to admit, it adds a bit of wow to the room and doesn't seem at all out of place. The room may not always be a nursery, and the chandelier will transition well into a study, home office, or library.

TWO

The simple window treatments add the right touch of pattern and color. Buffalo check and gingham is a fan favorite and a personal favorite. I also like repeating the fabric on other things in the room like the small bed pillow. See some fun ways to use gingham here.

THREE

Look at that natural light flooding in the window. So pretty!

FOUR

The similar framed prints on each side of the window bring a design element that I'm always drawn to: symmetry. It's pleasing to the eye. The color tone in the art and the white mats tie in perfectly with the rest of the room.

FIVE

And did you notice the lamp? It's blue and white. I'm telling you, that combination looks great in any room and with any decor. The size of the lamp is good for a nursery, and probably gives off just enough light when it's bed time.

SIX

Surprisingly, the antique chest looks like it was made for a baby boy's room. I love that the designer left it in the the original finish. So many people are painting vintage furniture these days. I do like it painted, but the dark wood is charming.

SEVEN

I wish I could see what's inside the little storage basket next to the rocking chair. I would use it for diapers, burping cloths, toys, books, and the list goes on. The dipped bottom is a sweet touch. Makes it look like it was made for the room.

EIGHT

The simplicity of the baby bed is next on my list. It's beautiful and handsome all at the same time. It doesn't need any other decoration. It speaks for itself.

NINE

The next detail to notice is the stuffed animal. His colors blend right in with the tones of the room.  You can't go wrong with a giraffe. He'll be so fun as the baby boy gets older.

TEN

The last styling element on my list of details to notice is the rug. Chosen correctly a rug is like the icing on a cake. I would say this one is perfect. The colors complement the room, the pattern is not overwhelming, and it ties the entire space together.

Did I miss anything? Did you love it as much as I do?

Until next time!

A little progress in my son's room...

Ok, so before I begin, here are all the reasons I haven't gotten very far in redoing and updating my son's room:

1. Summer ended.
2. Summer ended.
3. Summer ended.

You get the picture. I shared a little about my plans here. Once I'm back in the classroom full time, the updating, doing, and redoing tends to take a back seat. But, I have managed to get a few things done. And, after all, a little progress is better than no progress. Don't you agree?

I've hung the United States picture that I ordered from Smallwoods. A little more about the picture here. (The cost has gone up slightly.)

I found a shade at Lowe's for the cute lamp I picked up from the Salvation Army thrift store.

I ordered two of the Kallax shelving units from Ikea. (The first thing I've ordered from them - very pleased.)

And, I found a navy striped clothes hamper that I love at Sam's for less than $20.00. Mr. Teenager said it was girlie, but it's staying.

I'm hoping to pick up the pace in the next few weeks. With Thanksgiving break (we get the whole week off this year. Yay!) and Christmas break coming up, I'll have a dab more free time.

That hamper's not girlie, is it?

Have a great week! And thanks for reading along. Don't forget you can also follow us on Instagram, and keep up on Facebook, too.

Growing up a room...

A few posts back I mentioned that I am finally finding a little time to "grow up" my youngest son's bedroom. He has outgrown everything this year, including his bed! I thought I would give you a quick look at a few things I'm planning on using in the room.

Fabrics and colors I like

A lamp I found at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for $6. No luck yet finding the right shade.
Bargain lamp!

I lost my grandmother, we called her Momma Bea, in October and while cleaning out her house we found this old quilt. I love it and the colors and it looks masculine to me. It's really the inspiration for what I'm planning to do in his room.

This mirror has been in his room for years. I really like the wide frame and will be keeping it in the space. I thought about spray painting it to change it up some. We'll see...

This is the picture I mentioned in an earlier post. I ordered it from a new company in Texas called Smallwoods. I'm not sure this one is still available, but they have lots of wooden signs to choose from.

Hopefully, the room will be finished, and I can share it before he goes to college :-) Hard to believe this will be the last time I change up a room for one of my children who has out grown a space. Later on I'll show you my daughter's last room at home. A friend and I painted stripes on one of the walls. My daughter and I love the accent wall, but it was work!

Are you in the middle of any projects at your house?

Smallwoods...

I wanted to tell you about a new company I came across.  It's called Smallwoods. My youngest son out grew his twin beds in what seems like overnight. I sold the beds, and he now has a new bed that finally allows him enough room to keep his feet on the mattress! That's about all I've changed in the room. I'm beginning to get my thoughts together for "growing up the space" (more on that in a later post), and one of the things I will be using is this picture of the United States. I saw it in the Smallwoods ad on Facebook.

Compared to some similar items I have seen on the Internet and in retail stores, this is a great price for a nice, substantial item. It's 23X29, not small, and only $35. The picture of the United States is painted on the wood. It's not a sticker. I'm really pleased with the quality. It looks just as it did in the ad. You can see it (or order it!) for yourself here. Enjoy looking at all their other items at smallwoodhome.com.

What do you think about this piece?

Hope your Thursday is going well! Only two more days of spring break...
